How serendipitous for us that the weather gods should smile down and grant us with sunny skies and the warmest temps of the year on the very same day that the ice cream gods–Ben and Jerry–should bequeath that today, from the hours of noon to 8 p.m., you can get yourself some free ice cream! That’s right, today is Free Cone Day at all Ben and Jerry’s scoop shops around the country, which means you can get as many free cones or cups of ice cream as many times as you care to go through the line.

The Newbury Street scoop shop just unveiled a brand new mural–featuring cows in some iconic spots in Boston!
The Newbury Street Ben and Jerry’s has been a feature on our Back Bay chocolate tour since the very beginning, and it’s been really great learning about how involved the company has been with the Fair Trade movement. The company has been working hard to make sure that all of their products are Fair Trade by the end of this year, by virtue of the ingredients they use. Chocolate being one very significant ingredient, as a majority of their flavors use chocolate in some form or another.

I was lucky enough to meet THE Ben and Jerry a couple years ago when Boston was certified a Fair Trade town. That’s Ben all the way on the left, and Jerry on the right next to me.
If you’re looking for some chocoholic suggestions, might I recommend Chocolate Therapy, which is chocolate ice cream with chocolate pudding swirl and chocolate chunks. If you want to try something a little different, you can try their very first Fair Trade flavor, which is Milk and Cookies–vanilla ice cream with chocolate sandwich cookies and chocolate chip cookies mixed in. For something a little fruity, there’s Chunky Monkey, which is banana ice cream with chocolate chunks, and for something a little funky, there’s Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Snack, which is vanilla ice cream with salted caramel swirl and fudge covered kettle chips.
